A Lie of a "Good" Woman

A Lie of a "Good" Woman

The good woman is tired.

Of smiling through the ache.

Of performing peace.

Of holding her tongue in rooms that silence her.

She learned the rules early.

Be agreeable.

Be accommodating.

Be easy to love.

Good women do not disrupt.

Good women do not demand.

Good women do not make others uncomfortable.

So she swallowed.

Opinions. Boundaries.

The heat rising in her chest when something wasn’t right.

Until the swallow became a burn.

This is the fire that starts with rage — the clean kind.

The honest kind.

Not destruction.

Clarity.

Rage is what surfaces when politeness can no longer protect the lie. When kindness has been confused with self-erasure. When being “good” has required disappearing.

The lie is not that she is kind.

The lie is that her kindness must cost her.

“I am not here to be good. I am here to be true.”

Truth may unsettle the room.

Let it.

Because beneath politeness is a woman who was never meant to be managed — only reclaimed.
