You Filled In The Rest

We rarely notice how quickly we complete what we cannot see.

A pause becomes anger.

Distance becomes rejection.

Silence becomes an answer.

We take what we know, add what we assume, and somewhere

along the way forget which was which.

Maybe that’s because uncertainty asks more of us than certainty does.

It asks us to wait.

To wonder.

To leave room for the possibility that there is something we don’t know.

About them.

About what happened.

Even about ourselves.

And maybe that’s the uncomfortable part.

Sometimes the story we are most certain about is the one we’ve never

actually questioned.

How much of what you believe is what you know -

and how much did you fill in yourself?
