May History Remember

There are moments in history that divide us.

Not because they happened.

But because of what we choose to remember.

And what we choose to forget.

may history remember

Some are celebrated.

Others are quietly buried beneath time, discomfort, or convenience.

History has a way of waiting.

Waiting for someone willing to look again.

Not to reopen old wounds.

Not to assign blame.

But to understand.

Because healing has never asked us to erase the past.

It asks us to face it honestly.

There is a difference.

Every generation inherits something.

A triumph.

A failure.

A scar.

A promise left unfinished.

None of us authored the chapters that came before us.

But every one of us is writing the next page.

The question has never been whether history matters.

The question is what kind of people history will remember us to be.

Will it remember us for protecting our comfort...

or pursuing truth?

For winning arguments...

or preserving one another's humanity?

For speaking only when it was easy...

or listening when understanding required more of us?

Flags matter.

Traditions matter.

Stories matter.

But they matter because of the people they represent.

Without compassion, symbols become empty.

Without truth, remembrance becomes performance.

Without grace, memory becomes another battlefield.

Perhaps the greatest legacy we leave is not the side we chose...

but the dignity with which we treated those who stood somewhere else.

History cannot be rewritten.

Pain cannot be erased.

Truth should never be forgotten.

But every generation decides whether it will deepen old wounds...

or begin healing them.

When our names become part of someone else's history...

may they remember more than our opinions.

May they remember our courage to seek truth.

Our willingness to listen.

Our refusal to let another person's humanity disappear beneath disagreement.

May history remember that, when it was our turn to write a page...

we chose wisdom over noise.

Truth over convenience.

And hope over fear.

History cannot be rewritten.

Pain cannot be erased.

Truth should never be forgotten.

But every generation decides whether it will deepen old wounds...

or begin healing them.

When our names become part of someone else's history,

what will they remember?
